There are a number of email clients on app store. Some are dedicated to Gmail, some to Yahoo and some are meant for all types of email services. A few days back we reviewed the Sparrow email client iPhone app for our readers. Interestingly Sparrow can be used for all services such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail etc.
Talking more specifically about Hotmail, it is an extremely popular and known service and is widely used across the globe. So a good Hotmail client is definitely needed for our readers and hence we are here with an interesting mail app.
mBox Mail app is a Hotmail dedicated email client which is available on the app store for $9.99. It may seem too much for an email client but we hope that at the end of the review it is well justified.
The very first interface is where you add an account. Fill in your name, email and password and press save.
Once the account has been validated it shows up on the next screen. The app supports multiple Hotmail accounts which is a great feature. If you wish to manage your accounts, press the edit button on the top.
Tap on the account which you wish to use and you will have the complete interface with Inbox, Junk, Sent, Drafts and other sections. To refresh the account, you can tap on the refresh button present at the bottom left corner. To add new folders, you can use the Edit button and then tap on the + sign that appears at the bottom.
To create a new email, tap on the new button which is on the right bottom corner. You can even add photos as attachments from Photo library, Camera app and saved photo albums, directly using the Camera button present here.
If you wish to sync contacts with your hotmail account, you can do so by entering the Contacts section. You can sync all contacts which includes local and Hotmail contacts or you can sync them separately.
You can also apply passcode to your Hotmail accounts. See the Lock button at the bottom right in the second image from top.
Under the about section there is a small yet useful feature called as Quite Hours. Enable it, set the time duration and there will be no push notifications during these hours, instead the badges will be updated to indicate the current unread email count.
Other key features Of mBox Mail include: Handles multiple Hotmail accounts, New mail Push notifications, Access Windows Live Contacts, Move messages between folders, Add, edit and delete folders, Mail is kept in sync with the web including read/unread flags, Passcode protection to prevent unauthorized use
– Message Search, Support for large attachments, Send and receive pictures, Save pictures to photo album, Embedded web browser, Multiple language support, Supports Windows Live custom domains.
Now that it supports Windows live accounts, Hotmail accounts, features an embedded browser, I believe it is not that bad but the price could be a downside.
App Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
Conclusion: Handy and extremely useful. Do try it
