Open the application and then tap the ‘Discover’ tab and now you will the trends option on the top of the screen, just tap that.

How to Recover Deleted Chats Which are Recent (24 hours)

One of the best part of WhatsApp is that it automatically creates backup every day. The back up file is stored on your memory card (internal or external). So incase you want to restore the messages which are recent (less than 24 hours) all you need to do is uninstall WhatsApp and reinstall it.

To uninstall WhatsApp or any app on your Android go to Settings – Applications – WhatsApp and choose uninstall.

To reinstall either you can download the latest version from the Whats app site or from Play Store and install like you do it for any other app.

If you were a previous user and you are reinstalling to restore messages, before completely installing WhatsApp will prompt you if you would like to resort your messages from backup. Simply choose “Restore” and you have messages right there.

Recover Less Recent Backups (Older than a day)

If you loose something that is older than a day (but not more than 7 days) you can still restore those but not as easy as you did in most recent (24 hours) backs ups.

First thing you should do is create a backup for the newest messages. To perform this action go to Settings in WhatsApp – Chat Settings and – Backup conversations.

The back-up will be saved in the location “/sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases” with the name “msgstore.db.crypt”. You need to rename this file from “msgstore.db.crypt” to “msgstore.db.crypt.current”.

When you drive to “/sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases” location in your android phone you will see a list of Backup files there. The name of the backup file will denote the date on which it was created. For example the screenshot below shows the backup was created on 24th April.

Once you have selected which file you want to restore, rename that file from “msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt” to “msgstore.db.crypt”. (Long press on a file to rename it)

Now install WhatsApp. You will be prompted to Restore. The messages will be restore automatically in your WhatsApp account.

What about Media and other things?

In case you pictures and videos, WhatsApp stores these media files on your drive itself. So incase you loose WhatsApp, you can still find pictures and videos on your SDCard most likely in the album called “WhatsApp”.
