The Notification Center on the iOS 5 is indeed a great feature and we all love it but one of the things that I don’t like about the same is the inability to add custom sounds to different types of notifications. The latest firmware iOS 5.x.x does address to this problem pretty much as under Sounds settings one can choose different notification sound for text, voicemail, mail, sent mail, tweet, calendar and reminder alerts but still there would be a plenty of third party apps left with notification sound options to configure.
Understand it this way, assume you have the default sound set for mail, you get a notification for a Facebook comment and a notification for a new mail and unfortunately they both will sound the same, so you will not know what you are being notified of.
So undesirably you will have to pick up the phone and then see which notification is there. This is quite annoying at times but now it will not remain the same anymore. A new tweak called as PushTone is now available on Cydia store that lets you set different notification sounds for not only stock apps but different third-party apps as well .
To download the same go to Cydia store and search PushTone.
Once done, head to the stock Setting app and look for PushTone.
There is just one enable/disable toggle under Pushtone, so make sure it is switched On.
Now open Notifications from settings and look for Facebook, Mail or any other third party app.
Tap on the app and on reaching the notification settings for the same, scroll to the bottom. Here you will see a new section named as Push Tone.
Now you can enter the Push Tone settings and choose a custom sound for this very app. And similarly you can do so for other apps too.
App Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
Conclusion: Nice work by the developer but there are no Push Tone sounds for Messages and Phone
