Top Rated iPhone Apps For Tracking Physical Running Activity

Running is fun when we can keep a track on it and believe me, running on a treadmill in gym is no fun as compared to running on in a park or outside your home, but then many of the users prefer to go for gym because they can keep a track on the calories burnt, distance covered, time taken, average pace and others.

But, if you of all the people have an iPhone then you can get all that info up-to a very high degree of accuracy (even better than treadmill machines) on your iPhone which the help of many applications which we are about mention today. You will be able to keep a track at all the info or I should say more than the info available on your treadmill machine.

Before proceeding further with the applications, a common advice that all the application should not be in an indoor area, all of them are supposed to be used outside due to the better reception of GPS signal on your phone, else they will produce faulty data about your workout.

Apps to Use for Running

1. RunKeeper

It is a wonderful free application. I really like this application because it is really simple to use and it very fast. You just have to go outside and let the strength of the GPS signal change to strong, after that tap ‘start activity’ button. After every 5 minutes it will announce the report of your running, even if while jogging or walking you are on a call then after exactly the interval of 5 minutes it will announce about your workout in the background. It will also keep on displaying you the map on which red lined will marked displaying the distance covered by you.

Once the activity is completed it will speak out the result and then ask you to store the information, it will sent to your e-mail ID also through you have logged in to this account.

2. MapMyRun

Now this application almost covers every aspect of the application mentioned above but also provides some extra features like, it will ask you the distance and thus provide you the exact path on road map, which can be used by you for jogging, moreover after joining the committee of the users of this application you can compete in the sponsored challenges and win prizes.

Apart from this a common feature for all the applications used for running is the playing of the songs in background (which is really very necessary).

3. Faster

It is a paid application but it does not have any extra good feature as compared to these two applications mentioned above. You will start with creating a challenge for yourself by defining the time, distance and the songs playlist and let me tell you that this challenges are pre-defined in form of fixed distances. Once you click the ‘start workout’, your challenge time will start. One good point in this app is its user interface, which is quite appealing.

This app will show the total number of attempts made by you to complete a challenge along with successful and failed attempts. With these stats you will be put up with a ranking among users using this app. This spirit completion helps the users to do jogging like a game and thus they don’t get easily bored of it.

4. Nike+ Running

As far as I remember then initially it was mandatory to have ‘Nike sensors’ in your shoes to use this application, as it used those sensors to track the motion and it was also a mandatory application in previous version of iOS. But the sensors are not mandatory now as now this application uses GPS to track the motion. This application will let you create an own challenge for yourself and then you can post that on Facebook account. It will put the exact copy of map path along with the other details of your workout in the post. Moreover, if you are doing that with your friend then you can also tag him too.

5. Runmeter GPS Running Stopwatch

Again this application is a paid one and almost all of its features are covered by the applications mentioned above, except 2 features. One of them is the virtual competitor which will be created by computer if you do not have anyone to compete with, secondly like all the other applications you will not have to login before using this application, its click and start app.

Out of all these applications mentioned above, RunKepper is the best app because of its sober UI and faster response, moreover I have always personally felt that the GPS tracking and data calculation of this app is better than all the applications mentioned above and if you want more stats then you can go to iMapMyRun, which is little complex and will take some time to learn. Among the paid application Faster is an awesome application due to its UI, which is remarkable.
