Android smartphones are definitely more complex than iPhone as far as use is concerned. Since the OS allows you use external SD cards and manage them as per your needs, a number of file managers have been developed which make your job easier. Where most of the present file managers are good enough, they still are not good on the visual aspect.
By this I mean that all the file managers do give you the freedom to make changes inside but when it comes to delivering information visually they are not impressive at all. Grid Size File Manager is an exception and this very manager has a great visual appeal. The unique thing about this app is that it displays all the folders and files in different coloured grids with the folder or file name and size on it.
On the main screen you need to press the Scan Storage button to start using the manger. After you do so the app will scan your SD card and will display all the folders or files in grids with the one occupying more space at the top followed by less heavier files at the bottom. As you can see the app displays the folder or file name along with the size and at the bottom of the screen one can see the total percentage of occupied space on the SD card, though hard to see as the text size is small. You can also pinch zoom in and out and also move the pan by dragging your finger on the screen.
To access a folder just tap on it and all the files will be shown in different colours, again in grids.
Similarly if you want to open a file press the same and it will ask you for a confirmation.
For other options like cut copy, paste, rename etc long press any folder or file and a pop up window will open with all the desired options.
Additional options of the app can be accessed by pressing the menu key which contain Switch To List and Clear for Rescan. Press the Clear for rescan button and the app will do a fresh scan of your sd card.
The Switch to list is another type of view where instead of the grids one would see the contents in a list.
This is a free version of the app and contains Ads and if you like it then you can buy the ad-free app at an affordable price.
App Requirements: Compatible with Android devices. Requires android 2.0 and up.
Conclusion: Nicely done app and a really innovative one as a file manager.
