Back in 2011, HTC announced its partnership with Beats audio company and stated that it will be using their technology in their upcoming handsets to deliver optimum music quality.
The first Beats handset from HTC, the Sensation XE, was nothing short of a disappointment since the Beats audio implementation was purely software based. As time has passed by, HTC has improved the software part of the Beats audio to make the music sounds more lively by adding bass and volume to it. For the general consumers, this will be more than enough to add the ‘WOW’ factor.
If you were lusting after one of the HTC handsets with the Beats Audio logo, fear not, the XDA community has you covered. Since Beats Audio is software based, rather than hardware based, it was just a matter of time before it was ported to all other Android devices. An XDA member, RockoDev, ported Beats Audio to all Android 2.3+ running devices quite sometime ago, and has been constantly improving the port as well.
How To Get Beats Audio On Your Rooted Android Phone
Before you proceed further, make sure that you have a rooted Android device with a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP installed.
Step 1: Head over to this thread on XDA forums and download the Beats Audio mod from the first post. Transfer the file to your phone’s internal or external SD card.
Step 2: Reboot your phone into Recovery mode. If you don’t know how to do so, you can use an app called ‘Quick Reboot’ from the Play Store.
Step 3: Use the Volume keys on your phone to navigate through recovery, and select the ‘install zip from sdcard’ option by pressing the Power key. Then, navigate to the Beats Audio file that you downloaded in Step 1, and select it by pressing the power key once again.
Step 4: Once the zip file is flashed, select the ‘reboot system now’ option…and voila! You are done.
Below is a video guide from an XDA member on how to install the mod on your Android device -:
Die-hard audiophiles clearly know that Beats Audio is nothing more than a gimmick. However, general consumers will be more than pleased with the increase in bass and volume. If you are not a die-hard audiophile, and have a rooted Android device, go ahead and enjoy Beats Audio on your Android handset by following the steps above.
The above mod has been confirmed to work on the all HTC handsets, the Samsung Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 7.7, Motorola ATRIX, RAZR and the LG Optimus 2X. If you own a newer Android device like the Galaxy S3 or the Note 2, I will suggest you to stay away from this Beats Audio mod since the audio chip in your device is already more than capable enough of delivering clean and decent audio output.
