iPhone Speaks Current Weather, News, Stock, Facebook, Emails For You With Voice Brief

At times it happens with me and I am sure it happens with you also, even if there is an important email to read or important stocks to monitor, we act too lazy and avoid doing so. Also one might be too occupied, like driving, to divert his or her attention in doing any of the above tasks. In such situations I would personally wish an assistant who could read out that important stuff to me.

Voice Brief is an amazing app that has caught our attention and what it does is that it reads out your emails, stock prices, weather updates, RSS feeds on your iPhone etc. The best part is that once the app fetches the data it does not require any active data connection to read out the content to you.

It is available for free on the App Store but is quite heavy(approximately 250 MB) so you must download the application when on a Wi-Fi network. Download the app and you would be directed to the settings section since there is nothing present on the main interface by default and you will have to manually add your mail or reader account and other stuff. To instantly add the content on starting the app for the first time, press Add Contents or else press later and then use the Settings button present on the top right corner.

Under settings you get a number of options to configure. You can set Auto Start with Alarm, change Announcer voice and speed, change Reporter voice and speed etc.

The app has a default browser but you can switch to Safari as well from the settings.

Now coming to main function that the app performs. Under settings enter Edit Content and here you can add calendar, weather updates, stocks, news feeds, gmail account, google reader account, facebook account etc, to the main screen of the app. You can add as many items as you can and you will also get the option to select the number of unread content the app should fetch.

Here I have added AppsToUse RSS feed with 10 unread items to display.

Similarly you can add you google reader account to the main screen. Now to listen to some content, email or update or feed, you can tap on the content or you can also tap on the small arrow present at the bottom of the screen as seen in the image above. This will show up a small menu with play/pause, previous, next buttons. To jump to the next or previous section you can use the corresponding buttons. As you can see, using the share button(bottom middle) you can share it using Facebook, Mail or Twitter.

To use the in-app browser for opening a link, swipe your finger across the content on the main screen.

App Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later.

Conclusion: Very helpful and extremely helpful app. Do try it since it is free for a limited period
