Now Search Restaurants, Coffee Shops with Google Maps on iOS on iPhone

With this new update of Google Maps for iOS, few important and necessary features have been added. I have been struggling for a long time to see distance being displayed in KMs on Google Maps but could not find a way to do, actually very few users noticed that the units could not be changed initially and then other problem was discovering the near and unknown eating outlets, hangout zones on the Google Maps. Till now if you just randomly want to search the places under a certain category then Google Maps was not the right application rather you could use Foursqaure or Zomato for that purpose, but now Apple has the same thing with this new upgrade.

Explore with new location categories

Just tap on the Search text Field and then you will see new options introduced below the Search bar which has 4 broad categories to search the places like Restaurants, Coffee, Bar and Attraction. If you randomly want to search any restaurant in that area then just tap on any that option and then you will see the pointers on the maps indicating the near-by restaurants and similarly you can do the same with other options.

Change Unit to Kilometers

Now you want to change the unit of measurement into KMs then again tap the profile icon and then tap the gear icon for settings. You will see a field named Distance Units this is the option which was missing initially and now you can change it to the suitable value. In many countries Miles is not the standard opted to measure the distance and thus it was really problematic for the users from that location.

Another feature is the combining the Google Contacts with the Google Maps, if you have contact on your Google account which have addresses stored in them, then you will be able to see them on your Google Maps application. This feature has not been highlighted much as there are very few users to save their home location on their Google Account.

So this is the first major update for the Google Maps application for iOS and this gets better to a certain extent now as now you will not have to switch to other application for getting to know about the new hangout zones.
