Whenever we leave our hometown and go to other unfamiliar places either on a vacation or a family visit, we do plan to go to some nearby tourist spots, restaurants and in short the nearby popular places.
NearPics is a nice app for iPhone which searches the most popular destinations near your current location. Its functionality integrates the stock Maps app so that in case you want to go route to some popular place, you can do it at the tap of a button.
The apps interface is extremely user friendly with the least number of buttons. The bottom has the four buttons of which the first takes you to the website www.Panoramio.com from where the app fetches the pictures of the nearby places. The second button is the play pause button for the slideshow of the pictures and in order to get information about a particular place depicted in the picture, pause the slideshow and press the first button and the app will direct you to the above mentioned website.
If you wish to know the location of the place in the picture, tap on the third button which is for Maps and the app then switches itself with the Maps application for further assistance.
I assume that all of you know how to use the Maps but still for those who are less familiar the extreme left button at the bottom looks for your location, with Search you can search for nearby places if you know the name, Directions let you get the shortest route between your location and the place in the picture.
The last button on the right bottom is for changing the type of view of the Map to satellite, hybrid or list. You can also use the drop pin feature to specify places on the map.
The picture below will tell you how the Map looks if you switch the view to satellite.
App Requirements: Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 2.0 or later
Conclusion: I find the app quite interesting and useful when it comes to finding the best spots for a visit nearby.
