Apple has already released iOS 5.1 all the users running previous versions of iOS have been notified of the same. While many have already upgraded to the latest iOS, a lot of people are still waiting for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.
Now that the notification is already present on your Apple device, it must be annoying at times as a red badge is always present on the settings app icon.
Moreover, the notification is also present under the setting app.
To many this may not be of much concern but many people do not want to have the software update notifications every time they unlock the device. If one is not interested in updating the software there is definitely no need for the notifications. Unfortunately one cannot remove it on a un-jailbroken device, but if you do have your device jailbreaked, you can conveniently remove the notifications by installing a tiny tweak from Cydia.
Software Update Killer is a little tweak available for free on Cydia which can remove the unwanted software update notification bubble from your Apple device. All you have to do is go to Cydia and install the tweak. Search Software Update Killer (with spaces)
The app will neither add an icon to the homescreen nor will it found under the stock settings app. Once you respring your device after the installation is complete you will notice that the notification badge will disappear from the settings app icon. Above all there will be no notification under the General section as well.
App Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
Conclusion: Download it if you are really annoyed with update notifications.
